Nutritional breakdown of Nesberries (Sapodilla)

Photobucket

Ahhh nesberries… the fruit of many names. It also goes by: sapodilla, mamey sapote, manilkara zapota, lamoot, sofeda, sapoti!

Its texture is like a very ripe pear… soft and slightly gritty. Its covered with a papery thin brown skin. Its very sweet, like eating candy and it’s one of my favorite fruits! I’m actually eating one right now. Someone requested the nutritional breakdown of this fruit and I am more than happy to oblidge:

What I eat at work…

One of the most frequent questions I see on the raw food forums I am a member of is what do raw foodists eat at their workplace. No matter how you approach it, the likelihood is that whatever you bring to your office will illicit strange looks from your co-workers.

Usually, I will take a variety of fruits and vegetables or if I know it’s going to be a day where I am pressed for time, I’ll make a quick green smoothie. I keep a small travel blender at work so that I can throw together a blended meal quickly at the office (green smoothies shouldn’t sit for any major length of time and should be consumed while still fresh.) Occasionally I’ve brought soups etc. I also try to keep small containers of nuts an dried fruit in my desk. This will usually help if someone has brought in cakes or donuts and I become hungry by default.

This is what I had for lunch today:

Raw vegan lunch

Don’t sue me for the picture… it was taken with a cell phone camera.

Coconut meat, papaya, an apple and a nesberry (otherwise known as Sapodilla), quartered and a simple tomato corn salad. What is missing from this picture is a banana (I’d already eaten it) and a big glass of coconut water. This is a typical lunch for me.
